First, apply your foundation the way you would usually. Every great makeup look starts with the right base foundation. If you need to cover dark circles or blemishes, do so before applying your eye makeup for a smooth basis for your eye color. Gently pat concealer on dark spots under your eyes. Then use your foundation to smooth the look of your skin. Finally, use a similar color of powder to set your foundation. Next, begin to create the midnight smokey eyes need for that dramatic look you desire. Choose a sheer color like silver or light gray for the base color of your smokey eyes look. Use this sheer color from the eyelash area all the way up to the bone under your eyebrow. Smooth this sheer color evenly onto both eyes, and make sure the color is distributed evenly on both eyelids.Take a medium gray and start applying it at the eyelid, blending the medium color to just above the eye crease of both eyes.
Applying the medium gray color with a clean brush instead a sponge applicator may give you more blending control while you apply this medium shade of gray. Check to make sure the medium color is even on both eyelids before continuing to the next step of the smokey eyes look.Use a dark gray shade of eyeshadow for the next step of creating the smokey eyes look. This deeper color is intended to give a dramatically dark look to the eye, so applying this shadow carefully is important. Using a brush or eyeshadow sponge, place the darkest gray on the eyelid from the lash area to the eyelids only, avoiding the crease area.If you apply the darkest color in the crease of the eye, it will end up spreading to other areas of the eye and ruin the shading of your smokey eyes shadow.
Make sure the dark gray has been applied evenly to both eyes, and blend hard lines if they form. Smokey eyes should blend gradually from the darkest color next to the eyelids up to the lightest color on the eye bones.Next take a small brush or applicator and put a smudge line of the darkest shadow color under the bottom eyelashes. Apply the bottom line of shadow smoothly and evenly.Apply two coats of gray or black mascara for lash length and volume. A thin line of eyeliner can also be applied close to the eyelashes, but it isn’t necessary.
To accent the drama of smokey eyes, use color in other areas of the face sparingly. Keep the focus on the eyes.
